Work Plan

The objective of WP1 is to isolate and identify a number of probiotic bacteria and waste/by-product plant recourses rich in PMS that can potentially be used to control economically important intestinal pathogens (bacteria, parasites) in small ruminant production, without any untoward effects on animal well-being.

Task 1.1.: Isolation and identification of lactic acid bacteria

The general objective isto explore in in-vitro and in vivo studies the potential use of probiotics and PSM rich feed recourses against gut health pathogens (parasites or/and microbia) on animals.

Task 2.1.: In vitro antiprotozoal and antibacterial activity of PMS resources and probiotics

Task 2.2.: In vitro anthelmintic activity of PMS resources

Task 2.3.: In vivo anthelmintic activity of PMS resources using a model organism

The general objective is to explore the use of PSM rich selected resources and direct fed microbes with probiotic properties, which can be implemented on-farm to favour an integrated control of nematodes, coccidia and bacteria in small ruminants and support sustainable husbandry systems.

BIOACTIVATE plans to disseminate its results through a variety of channels and instruments to ensure that a broad range of expert and non-expert interested parties properly benefit from the results. The dissemination will target the scientific, industrial and farming communities by adopting a specific plan providing information and training of the solutions developed in the project.

The WP5’s objective is to implement an efficient management of the project from a scientific, administrative and financial point of view.
